Last Day to Sign up for Intergroup Dialogue on Race (Eduardo Pazos Palma)

Please consider applying for our upcoming Intergroup Dialogue (IGD) faculty/staff workshop on January 7, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm and January 8, 9:00 am – 12:00 pm. Due to the cumulative nature of this work, participants are required to commit to the entire day and a half.

What is IGD?
Bowdoin's Intergroup Dialogue program was created 4 years ago to create an experience for students to engage in conversations about, through and across race on and off our campus.

Bowdoin's program is based on the nationally recognized social justice program, Intergroup Relations (IGR), that originated at the University of Michigan (UM) in 1988 as a means of addressing racial tension; its primary goal is to support student learning and competencies around inter- and intra-group relations, conflict, and social justice across a range of social identities.

The Workshop
Kristie Ford, founder of Skidmore College’s IGR program, and Charles Behling, former Co-Director of IGR at the University of Michigan, will offer a workshop for Bowdoin faculty and staff interested in increasing their understanding of and competencies around race and other diversity related issues on campus. The workshop is both theoretical and experiential – emphasizing learning by doing. Specifically, it will consist of: (1) foundational work related to IGR theory and pedagogy, and (2) personal self-reflective exercises that illustrate this pedagogy.

If you are interested in attending, please complete this brief application by December 14:
