Learn more about a powwow circle and the respect for not breaking it. (Karen Shea)

We are inviting members of the Native community to campus to enjoy a beautiful Sat on May 4, and one way we can help make that happen is to be thoughtful about our actions during the event.

Every powwow centers on the Circle. The Circle is sacred and plays a major role in Native American tradition. It symbolizes a never-ending world where time is fluid and everyone is treated equally.

Dancers will be at the center of the Circle and the drums and participants will form a circle around them. Please be careful about getting out into the Circle unless invited to do so. Please do not cross through it at any time and if you need to go to a different area please always walk around the Circle.

If you have any questions or are unsure there will be volunteers to ask.  If you are interested in volunteering on this day, please email powwow@bowdoin.edu
