April 12 & 13 - The Arctic Museum Hosts a Film Festival - Reframing Historic Arctic Films (KymNoelle Hopson)

The Peary-MacMillan Arctic Museum will host a film festival celebrating the recovery of forgotten archival films documenting the Arctic, the discovery of people who contributed to the films but whose efforts were uncredited, and the way Inuit filmmakers are using historic, visual documents in their contemporary films. All presentations will be accompanied by fascinating and rarely seen archival footage. There will be ample time between presentations for questions and discussion.

Friday, April, 12, is an evening lecture featuring Mark Turner, historian and media archivist and Willi Lempert, Bowdoin professor and anthropologist who studies Indigenous filmmaking. 7:00 p.m. Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center.

Saturday, April 13, will be a full day of events that highlight the museum's film archives. There are numerous presenters and opportunities to see film footage never released before. 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. M129 Cinema in Mills Hall.

Sponsored by Kane Lodge Foundation, Inc. and the Russell and Janet Doubleday Endowment.

All events are FREE and open to the public.

The complete film festival schedule can be found online.
