THRIVE is hiring Summer Staff for the Geoffrey Canada Summer Institute (July 22 -August 26)! (Jonathan Macat)

Training starts July 22nd, and the program will run from Saturday, July 27th to August 27th. This is a residential position that includes room and board, and staff should expect to work 40 hours a week at a rate of $14.80 an hour. The Geoffrey Canada Scholars program is part of the college-wide initiative called THRIVE. THRIVE supports student achievement, belonging, mentorship, and transition among traditionally underrepresented students. Students in the Geoffrey Canada Scholars program participate in a two-year cohort experience that begins with a four-week Summer Institute. During the Summer Institute, the students take one course with a Bowdoin faculty, build community within their cohort, and learn about resources at Bowdoin. Students will also get to enjoy summer in Maine with excursions throughout Maine and New England college. - Introduce incoming students to life at Bowdoin; ease their transition and provide holistic support
- Create positive and safe living environment in a residential space
- Report sensitive information to the staff in a timely manner
- Participate in duty nights and on-call rotation and respond to crises that may arises
- Lead students to, and attend workshops and field trips with students
- Be actively engaged in the sessions with the students and encourage participation
- Lead hall study sessions and help students develop academic success skills (e.g., time management)
- Attend lunches and dinners regularly with the summer institute participants
- Attend GCS mentor summer meetings once a week to discuss your staff needs
- Work in tandem with the other mentors to submit a weekly report to the THRIVE staff
- Create and execute programs for students (e.g., Friday night activities)
- Engage with families, professors, staff, and guests as a representative of program and with a positive and helpful attitude
- Drive 12-passenger vans on a regular basis
