All Bowdoin Students: CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS for the 2022-23 English Department Writing Prizes (Laurie Holland)
ENGLISH DEPARTMENT WRITING PRIZES: OPEN TO ALL BOWDOIN STUDENTS
Submission deadline: Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 4:00 p.m.
Go to the English Department Prizes webpage for information and submission forms. Entries will not be accepted without a submission form. You may submit one entry in every category for which you are eligible. Entries may have been written for a class or on your own. Email your manuscript and submission form to the English Department coordinator.
FICTION CATEGORY: submit one work of fiction, no more than 6,000 words, double-spaced pages
- Hawthorne Prize: for best short story written by a sophomore, junior, or senior
- Sinkinson Prize: for best short story written by a junior or senior
CREATIVE NONFICTION CATEGORY: submit one work of creative non-fiction, no more than 6000 words, double-spaced pages
- Non-fiction Prize: for best work of creative non-fiction by an undergraduate. Open to all Bowdoin students of all classes
COMPOSITION CATEGORY: submit one essay or composition of no more than 6000 words, double-spaced pages
- David Sewall Premium: to a member of the first-year class, for excellence in English composition
- Pray Prize: to a senior for excellence in English literature scholarship and original English composition
POETRY CATEGORY: submit no more than five poems. Open to all Bowdoin students of all classes. All entries will be considered for all four prizes.
