THE FLYING ENSEMBLE: Physical Theater through Collaboration (Kate Flaherty)

Monday, March 6, 2023
4:00 p.m.
Kresge Auditorium, Visual Arts Center

Join us for a presentation and workshop with Michael Wood '06, who will share his expertise on physical comedy and theater, including the commedia dell'arte, the improvised comedy popular in Italian theaters from the sixteenth through the  eighteenth century, and lead students - and willing spectators - through explorations of space, ensemble building, character, and improvisation.

Wood has acted in musical comedy, drag performances, Shakespeare, theater for young audiences, and two one-man-shows. Come be a part of what promises to be a memorable program!

Michael Wood graduated from Bowdoin College with a degree in French and English and theater. In 2006 he studied at the Jacques Lecoq International Theater School in Paris, where he worked on mime and movement for the theater. In 2009, he participated in a training with Ariane Mnouchkine's renowned Théâtre du Soleil, workshopping the production of a new play. In the United States, Michael has worked as a professional actor, singer, and dancer in Boston, Cape Cod, Arizona, Florida, Pennsylvania, Maine and, most recently, in Washington, DC, where he lives. He is currently in rehearsals at the famed Ford's Theatre for the new Broadway-bound musical based on the life of rock'n'roll pioneer Sister Rosetta Tharpe, "Shout, Sister, Shout!" Michael earned his MFA in 2017 from the Shakespeare Theatre Company's Academy for Classical Acting at George Washington University.
